Apartheid Free Zone Campaign
-
As food, farm, and hospitality workers we are uniquely situated to support the growing BDS movement in solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for liberation. We understand supply chains, we operate gathering spaces, we're feeding our communities — we are culture bearers.

Aligned with the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, FIG is launching an Apartheid Free Zone campaign to organize our NYC food sector toward liberation. We are working with food, hospitality, and farm businesses to divest from the U.S. and Israeli genocidal war machine, and invest in more just and regenerative local economies.
In 2017, FIG collaborated with Palestinian chefs Amanny Ahmad and Reem Assil to produce a beautiful two night pop up in protest of Israel’s “gastro diplomacy” festival Israel Roundtables. Since then, FIG helped launch Hospitality for Humanity with Reem and another Palestinian chef comrade, Marcel Afram.
FIG has been preparing for this campaign for years. Now, with your help, we will:
Meet with business owners and help them conduct assessments of their inventory; identify complicit companies and local/ethical alternatives
Conduct educational workshops and events for industry colleagues
Support food business operators in being brave and principled by declaring their establishments an Apartheid Free Zone with posters for brick and mortars and digital decals for social platforms
