Food Security PROGRAM

FIG launched an emergency food relief initiative in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

From March through December 2020, we delivered prepared meals, fresh produce and pantry staples to hundreds of households every week, in partnership with food businesses in our network and community organizations led by and serving folx at the frontlines of fighting food apartheid.

Overall, we delivered the equivalent of 70,000 meals.

in 2021, we Deepened our partnership with transgrediendo.

Grounded in our belief in horizontal relationships — and a desire to build “a mile deep, an inch wide,” in ways that would be more sustainable for all the people, businesses and organizations involved — we strategically relaunched our program in June 2021 in collaboration with Colectivo Intercultural Transgrediendo.

Working with TG — an incredible trans-Latinx-led organization based in Jackson Heights Queens, primarily serving folx currently or previously doing sex work — we delivered 70 bags every week of fresh produce from Brooklyn Grange and Rock Steady Farm, prepared food from 1:1 Foods and Pixie Scout. We did this powered by space and a delivery van donated by Pixie Scout, hours of labor on Pixie Scout and 1:1 Foods staff time, and countless hours put in by FIG, farmer and TG core organizers, too, from June through October.

Our work continues to grow in 2023. Find us here for the latest updates and learn more about TRANSgrediendo’s work directly.
